Jacobson/Dykes Family Shower

We had a fun time at Ava's family shower a few weeks ago - I'm a bit behind on posting pics of the event!  It was a wonderful time that I will never forget.  Great Grandma Jacobson and Bob, Great Aunt Sandy and Great Uncle Mark Wold, "great" cousins Tiffany Wold and Tonia Wold, Great Uncle Mike Jacobson and Great Aunt Cara Jacobson, "great" cousin Carter Jacobson, Great Grandma Dykes, Great Aunt Mary Dykes, Great Uncle Brad Dykes, Great Aunt Sheryl Dykes, and "great" cousin Erin Dykes, along with Grandma and Grandpa Jacobson and Uncle Ethan and Aunt Marissa joined us to celebrate Ava's life.  We all had the best time together, laughing and sharing memories.  All the uncles really enjoyed holding Ava and trying to guess how much she weighed!

Ava did really well being passed around.  The guys went golfing after hanging out for a while with Ava, and when they left the girls stayed behind for the shower.  Great Aunt Mary Dykes, Great Aunt Sheryl Dykes, and Erin put on the most beautiful shower I have ever seen or attended.  They made the shower to look like a birthday party for Ava.  We all got adorable hats to wear, handmade, of course.

Handmade picture frames, sign, and embroidered tablecloth

Handmade picture frames, table decorations, and Ava's birthday hat!
There was a tablecloth embroidered with Ava's full name and birthdate, and on the table were picture frames for each year of her life up to age 10.  The tables had pink tablecloths and elaborate centerpieces with candy and "cake balls" displayed.  My Aunt Mary explained that, when the shower was over, she would pack up all the decorations used that day.  Each year Ava has a birthday, we will get the tub out and display the tablecloth, picture frames, and the kids who attend can wear the hats.  Even the centerpieces, minus the cake balls, can be used again.  Upon Ava's high school graduation, these photo frames and decorations can be used at her party.  I was overwhelmed.  How blessed are we to have such a caring and loving family?  We think Great Aunt Mary needs to start a decorating business!  Ava will definitely be the envy of all her friends to have such beautifully decorated birthday parties in her future!  We are so thankful to Mary, Sheryl, and Erin for the work they did to make the shower so special for Ava.

We had a great time laughing, talking about motherhood, and just enjoying each other's company at the shower.  It was held at Great Grandma Dykes' place, which has a big room with full kitchen for us to congregate in.  I am so grateful for the sacrifices that everyone made to attend the shower in Cedar Falls.  The Dykes families came from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Omaha.  The Jacobson's came from Aurelia and Meriden in Northwest Iowa.  The Wold's had to drive from Big Lake, Minnesota.  I know it took effort to make the trip and take a weekend away from family, friends, and other responsibilities to attend and we are so grateful that so many members of our family were able to make it.  There were a few that couldn't, and we totally understand!  Ava can't wait to meet you soon!
